Level 1
and 2
(2 days or 4 modules) |
Level
1 Training
provides a
practical introduction to the Makaton
Language Programme. Sessions
include discussing commonly asked
questions, hints and tips for effective
signing and symbol use and how to start
using Makaton in everyday situations at
home or work. You will also learn
the signs and symbols from Stages 1 and
2, and some of the Additional stage, of
the Core Vocabulary
Level 2 Training builds on the
knowledge you gained in Level 1
training. You will learn the signs
and symbols from Stages 3 and 4, and the
rest of the Additional stage, of the
Core Vocabulary.

members /carers who need a detailed
understanding of how to use Makaton in
everyday or work
situations.

further develop signing and translation
skills using signs/symbols
To learn Makaton signs/symbols from
stages 5 -8 (approx. 200 signs/symbols) |

Makaton
Signing for Babies - Train the trainer
workshop
(1 day) |
To
familiarise with each session of the
Makaton Signing for Babies group.
To assess participants’ knowledge of
Makaton, signing skills and ability to
deliver the Makaton Signing for Babies
group sessions. |
Potential trainers must first complete
the Level 1 and 2 Makaton workshop. They must also attend a six
week Makaton Signing for Babies group. |
Makaton Safeguarding
(2 days) |
To build on existing knowledge of
Makaton and embed within a Safeguarding
framework.
To learn topic specific vocabulary.
To develop skills to support a
child’s/adult’s understanding and
expression to safeguard themselves and
communicate their experiences and
wishes. |
Parents and carers of children and
adults with severe communication and/or
learning disabilities or professionals
who may be involved with Safeguarding
issues. Participants MUST have attended
the Level 1 and 2 Makaton workshop. |
